Never Too Old to Play Ice Hockey!

Never Too Old to Play Ice Hockey!

It's not every grandfather who can brag that he has played hockey with his grandson, but Ralph Kimball can! He sent me a photo of himself and his now 14-year old grandson Ethan. "He's a terrific hockey player and will play prep school hockey at St. Marks in Southboro, MA this winter," boasts the proud grandfather.

Does Social Media Lead Directly to Sales?

I think many of us are past the point of considering social media a ‘new’ marketing channel. Businesses of all kinds are participating on Facebook, Twitter and more.

“Let’s go to Paris.  I want to rob.”

When misfit high schooler Marc (Israel Broussard) gets this text on his phone, he knows just where he and his new best friend Rebecca (Katie Chang) are headed.  Not to gay Paree, but to the home of Paris Hilton, who conveniently leaves the front door key under the mat.  There, surrounded by adulatory photos of Ms. Hilton herself, they will help themselves to her high-fashion clothing, shoes, accessories and jewelry, and maybe twirl around the stripper pole in the model’s “nightclub room.”

Where You Can Pick Blueberries in Maine

Where You Can Pick Blueberries in Maine

If you’re looking for a farm that will let you pick your own blueberries, you’re in luck because there are several in Maine. Most places are opening mid to late July, but some not until the first of August. If a farm has a website or Facebook page, I included a link. Movies: "Despicable Me 2"

You’ve got to love the fact that “Despicable Me 2” unhorsed “The Lone Ranger” at the box office.  Disney -- the godfather of animated movies -- trumped by an animated movie!  (Of course, the mouse house has also had a number of hits this summer, thanks in large part to its Marvel Comics franchise.)

I loved the original “Despicable Me” with its soft-hearted villain Gru (Steve Carell), whose plot to steal the moon is undone by three cute li’l orphan girls.  (I’ve been wondering about his name:  is it short for Gruesome, or perhaps a sly reference to the GRU, Russia’s military intelligence service?  Certainly, Gru’s odd accent has more than a hint of Russkya in it, along with maybe a little Yiddish.)

Small Changes with Big Results

Small Changes with Big Results

In June, I was the featured New England blogger for Harvard Pilgrim Healthcare's Count Us In campaign. One of the assignments was to ask our followers for health and wellness tips. It's called crowd sourcing.

I asked Catching Health Facebook followers to share one change they had made in their lives that made them feel healthier or happier. I got lots of great responses!

One example:

Michele: "I started running. It makes me feel healthier and has turned out to be a great stress reliever. Every run, whether three miles or 13 miles, is a struggle for me, especially since I have asthma and allergies. I feel a sense of accomplishment after every run. My next half marathon is June 23rd. I've been doing it for three years and I'm super slow, but I'm doing it. Maybe someday I’ll do a full marathon."
