Easy Valentines Day dishes for your sweetheart | Home & Garden
All right folks, Valentines Day doesn’t have to be as expensive as you might think. Yes, the pressure is on for us to perform well, but you can do that on a reasonable budget. Here is my suggestion, make your partner a great meal at home. I know what you’re thinking, and it’s not as hard as it sounds. Here are a few of my favorite dishes that are quick, easy, and delicious (easy on the budget too).
Now these might not be the most romantic dishes (and to be honest I’m not sure what makes the actual food romantic), but cooking for your partner is romantic. It’s especially romantic if you’re not the one who usually does all the cooking (and if you don't let them watch you do the preparing). These recipes are as easy as it gets, and cooking is all about the presentation. So while these recipes may look like the easy way out, make the final plate look nice.
No-fry stir-fry (feeds two)
What to buy:
-2 packages of frozen veggies, I like the ones that have a variety of veggies in the package. You usually microwave them for about 4 minutes and they’re ready to go. Cost for one package is usually under $2.00
-2 pack minute rice. These usually are two cups packaged together, they microwave for one minute each. Perfect for this dish. Usually around $2.39
-A fully cooked rotisserie chicken from the deli section of your grocery store. Most grocery stores sell the fully cooked chickens in or around the deli section. They are made fresh that day, hot or cold (though cold is usually a little cheaper). The cost is usually around $7 or $8 sometimes a little less.
Optional: Worcester sauce
Microwave the veggies and then the rice. While they’re cooking pick apart the chicken. Pulling out the bite size chunks place them into a pasta bowl or a regular plate. Then top with the veggies and then the rice. Really a big bowl is best for this. Optional – mix in the Worcester sauce. Give it a nice zesty taste, but only if you like it. Stir well and serve.
Buffalo Chicken Pasta Salad (feeds 2)
Same idea, grab a rotisserie chicken and pick it apart. Here is what you need:
-1 rotisserie chicken
-1 box of pasta. Think about the kind of pasta you want. Don’t do anything long like angel hair or spaghetti. You want something short like shells or bow tie pasta. Any kind of pasta will do here. Think like mac and cheese.
-Buffalo sauce – will be a hot sauce. Choose which one will work for you.
-Blue cheese salad dressing ( I like to buy a cold one from the veggies section)
Optional -Veggies, here again your choice. Celery works the best, maybe carrots – you decide.
-Make the pasta according to the directions on the box.
-While the pasta is cooking, get the buffalo sauce ready. Grab two good size pasta bowls. In each one, combine about two tablespoons with one tablespoon of blue cheese. Stir it up.
-Pick apart the chicken and add it to the mix. Once the pasta is done drain it and add it to the bowl.
-Stir it up, add the optional veggies and chill it in the fridge for about 5 to ten minutes. Serve and enjoy!
Chicken and Brie
Now this might sound too fancy, but it’s really easy and will make you look good.
What you need:
-Breaded chicken patties (2) (sometimes you can buy pre-cooked or frozen ones that just need to be cooked for like 2 or 3 minutes on each side) look for these pre-cooked ones, it will make this dish easier.
-Rolls like hamburger rolls, but pick out the ones you like the most.
-Brie – watch the Brie label closely. You don’t need too much, just enough for two. Sometime it’s a little over priced. Just get a simple one under $5 or around $6.
-Optional – An apple
-Cook the breaded chicken
-Toast the buns if you can
-Start slicing up the Brie.
-Spread the Brie on the buns as best you can. It will melt uickly once the hot chicke patties are in the buns.
-Add the chicken, top it with the brie and let it melt on it.
-Optional, slice up the apple, take the small slices and top the chicken and brie with it. Put the top part of the bun and serve.
Don’t be scared, this is so easy, I don’t know why more people don’t do this.
Usually in aisle with the rice are these mixes that have the easiest directions for big meals. I think they’re from McCormick, but there are a variety of these mixes so shop around for the best one. The beef stew one is super easy to make, it just takes an hour and a half to cook in the oven. You will need a 13x9 in pan.
What to buy:
-Diced up beef, look for this in the meat section. It’s basically cut up steak, one or two pounds of beef at the most. This will serve you for a couple of days or for more than one person.
-Flour if you don’t already have some.
-Choice of veggies, personally I like two or three russertt potatoes, celery, and baby carrots.
At this point follow the directions on the mix, but just in case here is what you will do.
-In a medium bowl, mix the mix with ¼ cup flower and 1/3 cup water (double check with the directions).
-Chop up the potatoes, and celery. Open up the plastic bag that comes with the mix. Start to add the veggies and beef. Rotate through the ingredients till they are all in.
-Then add the mix from the medium bowl.
-Tie up the bag, lay on it’s side, now poke two small holes on what is now the top of the bag (once laid down in the pan).
-Cook for 1hour and 30 minutes at 350.
-Take out let cool, cut open the bag pour the beef stew into the hot pan and serve it up.
