Alpha One-Adaptive Driving Education Fundraiser

Alpha One-Adaptive Driving Education Fundraiser

Alpha One is launching our first fundraising initiative to enhance our Adaptive Driving Education program and we are looking for your help.

This program is one of our oldest, and has been offering driver evaluation, assistive driving technology consultation and driver education and training since the early ‘80s. The ADE Program has helped hundreds of Maine consumers to become licensed drivers and enjoy the freedom of mobility

Our goal is to lower the overall cost of delivering this valuable service to Maine people who want to get back on the road again, by soliciting support from individuals and businesses who share our desire to help others remain independent.

Donations from foundations and individuals will provide for the purchase and adaptation of a new van and the operation of the program over the next five years.

Work Begins in Early May on the Merrymeeting Bay Bridge on the Coastal Connector Bypass

This necessary rehabilitation will be completed before the July 4th Weekend.  On Memorial Day Weekend, traffic will not be impacted from Saturday, May 28th at 6AM to Tuesday, May 31st at 7PM.  All work schedules are weather-dependent and are subject to change.  We know this work may be inconvenient for motorists and urge you to allow extra time, seek alternate routes and drive safely in the work zone where speeds are reduced and fines are doubled.  Thank you for your patience.

Travel Alert: Brunswick

Because of a large apartment fire that has left 18 people homeless, the northern end of Maine Street in Brunswick is closed until at least the evening. Maine Street is closed between Mill Street to the north and Bank Street to the south.

17th ANNUAL EVENT ASKS 'WHAT'S YOUR MPG'

Commuters who carpool, vanpool, ride transit, bike, walk or telecommute May 16 through 20 can double their miles per gallon – or better. With high gas prices hitting commuters hard in the pocketbook this spring, Commute Another Way Week is urging employers and commuters to work together to raise their MPG – and save a bundle on their daily commute.

“This is the 17th year we’ve held this event, and one thing that never stops drawing people in is the message about how much you can save when you drive alone to work less frequently,” says event organizer Carey Kish of the GO MAINE program.

The purpose of Commute Another Way Week is to let help Maine commuters learn more about carpooling, vanpooling, biking, walking or riding transit, teleworking and other low-cost alternatives to the single-occupant vehicle.

Shopping Train to transport happy holiday travelers

The annual shopping train to Rockland aboard Maine Eastern Railroad is
scheduled to run on the Saturday following Thanksgiving, on the 27th
of November.

Following another successful passenger excursion season, the shopping
train precedes the annual Jingle Bell Express in Rockland; the Bath
Candy Cane Trains; and the Coats & Toys for Kids Train with Togus the
Cat in December.
Rockland is known for its growing list of holiday attractions, which
includes the largest Lobster Trap Christmas Tree in The World.
Overlooking Rockland Harbor, the tree is built from approximately 200
standard-size wire mesh lobster traps.  In addition to that, the
seaside community located on the western shore of Penobscot Bay will
have its historic downtown waterfront business district decked out in
Christmas décor.

Among other things shopping train travelers will fin
